CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. — Events and operating hours for the Press Site at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida are set for space shuttle Endeavour’s departure. The NASA Shuttle Carrier Aircraft (SCA), a modified 747 jet, will depart Kennedy on Sept. 17 to deliver Endeavour to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) on Sept. 20.

Members of the news media are invited to cover the following events (all times are EDT):

Tuesday, Sept. 11
5 p.m. – SCA arrival at Shuttle Landing Facility (SLF)
–Arrive at Press Site by 3:30 p.m. for 4 p.m. departure

Wednesday, Sept. 12
10 a.m.-noon – Tour of SCA and interview opportunity with pilots and
crew
–Arrive at Press Site by 9 a.m. for 9:30 a.m. departure

Thursday, Sept. 13
8 a.m.-9 a.m. – Media photo opportunity of SLF commemorative plaques
and Center Planning and Development Office update on future SLF
opportunities
–Arrive at Press Site by 7 a.m. for a 7:30 a.m. departure

10 a.m.-noon – Command, Control and Communication briefing in the Launch Control Center’s Firing Room 1 and at Launch Pad 39B by NASA’s Ground Systems Development and Operations Program
-Arrive at Press Site by 9:15 a.m. for 9:45 a.m. departure

Friday, Sept. 14
5 a.m. – Endeavour rollout from Vehicle Assembly Building’s high bay 4 to SLF mate/demate device.
–Arrive at Press Site by 3:30 a.m. for 4 a.m. departure

SCA/Endeavour mating operations through 5 p.m.

Sunday, Sept. 16
7-9 a.m. – Interview opportunity with astronauts Kay Hire, Tim Kopra and Andy Thomas at SLF

Media may register for individual interview times at the Press Site beginning Friday, Sept. 14.

7 a.m. – SCA/Endeavour backout of mate/demate device photo opportunity
–Arrive at Press Site by 5:30 a.m. for 6 a.m. departure

Monday, Sept. 17
Endeavour departs at first light (approximately 7 a.m.)

4:45 a.m. – Buses begin departing for SLF midpoint

6:45 a.m. – NASA TV live coverage of shuttle Endeavour’s departure

Interview opportunities with astronauts that flew aboard Endeavour at various times beginning at 5:30 a.m. and concluding at 8:45 a.m.

Media Accreditation

U.S. journalists wanting to cover the arrival of the SCA must apply by close of business today. Accreditation for international news media for the arrival is closed.

To cover Endeavour’s departure on Monday, Sept. 17, the deadline for international journalists is close of business today. For U.S. journalists the deadline is noon, Sept. 14.
