CLEVELAND — Gene L. Stygles of Medina, Ohio, and Renee D. Palyo, of Olmsted Township, Ohio, recently were appointed as chief and deputy chief, respectively, of the Facilities Division in the Facilities and Test Directorate at NASA’s Glenn Research Center.

“I welcome Stygles and Palyo to our directorate management team and look forward to working with them as we continue to transform the infrastructure of Glenn Research Center,” said Rickey Shyne, director of Glenn’s Facilities and Test Directorate.

In this new position, Stygles will manage 150 employees who provide planning, engineering and project management for facilities design and construction projects as well as the maintenance, operations and overall management of institutional systems. He brings a wealth of experience to this position with over 28 years of NASA experience in facility program/project management and construction implementation. Stygles is a registered Professional Engineer in Ohio.

Stygles’ experience in large programs includes work on the Advanced Solid Rocket Motor Program, the National Wind Tunnel Complex, and the Facility Relocation Program associated with the Cleveland Hopkins International Airport’s expansion. Assignments include detail opportunities as test engineer at the 8- by 6-foot Supersonic Wind Tunnel and as Construction of Facilities Program manager at NASA Headquarters in Washington.

Stygles holds bachelors and masters degrees in civil engineering from Michigan State University and Cleveland State University, respectively.

Styles was the recipient of the 2010 NASA Exceptional Service Medal for outstanding service in the management of Glenn’s construction projects and demonstration of project management excellence.

Palyo has over 22 years of experience in the Facilities Division at the Glenn Research Center. In her new position, Palyo will be participating in leading the planning, direction, execution of facilities project design and construction, maintenance, planning, engineering and systems management, as well as the administrative and business functions of the Facilities division. Most recently she served as head of the Program Management Office in the division, and until that position is backfilled, she will continue to support those duties in a dual capacity.

Palyo’s supervisory experience also includes serving as chief of the Engineering Management Branch. During her years at Glenn, she has served as a design engineer, project manager, systems manager and engineering technical lead, resulting in a broad background in technical leadership and management experience which her new position requires.

Palyo holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Toledo.
