Today, Space Florida President Frank DiBello and Mr. Jaime Denis, Director General of the Instituto Nacional de Tecnica Aeroespacial (INTA), signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to further enhance business development opportunities between Florida and Spain in the aerospace sector. Space Florida and INTA will now begin the process of the forming a joint venture commercial business that will become a world leader in small satellite development, manufacturing, sales, R&D and launch. The first steps in this process will be:

1. The completion of a commercial market analysis for pico, nano and micro-sized satellite systems within 120 days of signing this MOU.

2. The development of a five-year business plan that would include an industry/customer competitive analysis and marketing, operations and financial plans by May, 2012.

At the completion of these milestones, a final decision will be made regarding the creation of a Joint Venture Company (JV), which would be located in Florida.

Additionally, as part of this MOU, Space Florida commits to securing the earliest available launch opportunities for demonstrating JV satellite capabilities.

INTA is the Spanish Public Research Organization specializing in aerospace research and technology development. Its main purpose is the acquisition, maintenance and continuous improvement of Spanish technologies that can be applied to the aerospace industry.

“INTA has had significant success in recent years building expertise in both nano and pico satellite development and manufacturing, as well as in small satellite applications,” noted Space Florida President Frank DiBello. “Spain’s expertise in small satellite manufacture, delivery and application development, combined with unique Florida-based assets and technology, equates to a powerful partnership that will result in employment as well as increased launch opportunities for Florida.”
