CLEVELAND — NASA’s Glenn Research Center, in partnership with Kalahari Resorts, will offer 150 Sandusky area students a unique opportunity to learn about science on “Math and Science Day,” Wednesday, Feb. 23, from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Nia Center at Kalahari Resorts, Sandusky, Ohio.
The eighth grade students participating in the pilot program are from the Bellevue, Berlin-Milan, Clyde, Danbury, Perkins and Sandusky school districts.
“The goal of Math and Science Day is to engage students in the fundamental aspects of science, technology, engineering and math that underpin not only space exploration, but day to day life,” said Brian Willis, project lead for Glenn’s Plum Brook Station’s Education and Outreach Team.
Ohio native and veteran astronaut Mike Foreman will welcome the students and share his space travel experiences with them. Afterward, Glenn researchers, operations engineers, cryogenic fluid and vacuum systems specialists will command ten different learning stations. Students will visit each station to engage in hands-on activities that include: space propulsion, planetary science, vacuum environments, mechanical resonance, cryogenics, microgravity, sound waves and life sciences.
