What: NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Ala., will hold a rally Oct. 21 for the Combined Federal Campaign — the annual federal government goodwill drive to benefit local, state and national charitable organizations. Members of the news media are invited to attend.
Marshall’s fundraising goal for 2010 is $675,000. As of Oct. 15, the center had already raised more than $88,000. The 2010 drive concludes Dec. 10. The Marshall Center’s campaign is part of the Tennessee Valley CFC effort, which also includes the U.S. Army Aviation and Missile Command and other federal agencies at Redstone Arsenal and in surrounding Alabama and Tennessee counties.
Who: Speakers will include Marshall Center Director Robert Lightfoot and Tory Green, a freshman at Jacksonville State University in Jacksonville, Ala. Green, an Eagle Scout, graduated from Lee High School in Huntsville in 2009. A vocal CFC advocate, he has spoken publicly about the impact made on his family and his life by the United Way, the Boy Scouts of America, Big Brothers Big Sisters of America and other participating CFC charitable organizations. The rally also will include performances by the Grissom High School Band and the cheerleading squad at Alabama A&M University in Huntsville.

To attend: News media interested in attending the event should contact Angela Storey in Marshall’s Public & Employee Communications Office at 256-544-0034 no later than 4 p.m. CDT on Wednesday, Oct. 20. Media must report to the Redstone Arsenal Joint Visitor Control Center at Gate 9, Interstate 565 interchange at Rideout Road/Research Park Boulevard. Vehicles are subject to a security search at the gate. News media will need two photo identifications and proof of car insurance. Visitor parking is available in front of Building 4200 on the southwest side.
