High School Seniors From Nassau and Suffolk Counties, New York; St. Mary’s, Charles and Calvert Counties, Maryland; and Brevard County, Florida Invited to Compete
The Battle Management and Engagement Systems Division of Northrop Grumman Corporation’s Aerospace Systems sector is taking applications for its 2010 NextGen Engineers Scholarship Program. There will be five scholarships awarded.
It is open to students in several communities where the division has campuses. This year, for the first time, this scholarship program is also open to children of Northrop Grumman employees who live in those communities.
The program offers each winner $10,000 towards a four-year college education — $2,500 per year over four years. In addition, winners are eligible for a paid summer internship at one of the division’s campuses for the three summers of their four-years of undergraduate studies. Including salaries, these scholarships could be worth as much as $30,000.
During those internships, each winner has the chance to work on real-world research and development projects as members of Northrop Grumman engineering teams. On the job, they are mentored by accomplished senior engineers while bringing their own, fresh approaches to projects.
“The NextGen Engineer program is our initiative to excite the young generation’s interest in careers in the science, technology, engineering and mathematics fields. Continued success in our business and maintaining our Nation’s competitiveness in a global economy depends on inspiring and attracting the next generation work force,” said Tom Vice, sector vice president and general manager of the Battle Management and Engagement Systems Division.
The NextGen Engineers Scholarship Program is open only to high school seniors who live in the following locales:
* Nassau and Suffolk counties in New York (Long Island);
* Brevard County, Florida; and,
* St. Mary’s, Charles and Calvert counties in Maryland.
While students in Maryland’s St. Mary’s, Charles and Calvert counties can apply for this and separate scholarships offered by Northrop Grumman Electronic Systems sector’s Engineering Scholars program, which is open to students across Maryland, they can only be selected as a winner of one scholarship. The two selection teams will make those determinations. Children of employees also can only receive one Northrop Grumman scholarship.

Applications must be postmarked by March 26, 2010. Winners will be announced at the end of May.
