What: NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Ala., will open its doors to team members’ children June 4 during the center’s annual “Take Our Children to Work Day.” More than 1,000 children in grades 3-12 are expected to tour NASA facilities and team up to tackle space-themed art projects, build virtual launch vehicles and launch handmade rockets — all in keeping with this year’s theme, “Building Partnerships to Educate and Empower.”
In addition to the science- and space-themed activities provided by the Marshall Center, Sci-Quest, the U.S. Space & Rocket Center and the Huntsville Area Rocketry Association, the day will include informative sessions about bicycle and helmet safety, fire safety and smart money management. Additional participating organizations include the Huntsville Police Bike Patrol, the Redstone Arsenal Fire Department, the National Weather Service and Redstone Federal Credit Union. “Take Our Children to Work Day” activities are organized by the Marshall Center’s Office of Diversity and Equal Opportunity.

Media must report to the Redstone Joint Visitor Control Center at Gate 9, Interstate 565 interchange at Rideout Road/Research Park Boulevard 45 minutes prior to the start of the event. Vehicles are subject to a security search at the gate. News media will need two forms of photo identification and proof of car insurance. Visitor parking is available in front of Bldg. 4200 on the southwest side.
