As part of the annual Fashion Week Cleveland that runs May 1-9, NASA Glenn Research Center’s Visitor Center will host a special program on the design and function of spacesuits.
On Sunday, May 3, at 2 p.m. Bryan Palaszewski, an aerospace engineer at Glenn, will present a look at past and future spacesuit designs and other attire worn by astronauts during various missions. Everyone attending this special event can take home a digital photograph from the “Picture Yourself in Space” photo booth.
Throughout Fashion Week Cleveland, the Visitor Center will feature spacesuit displays and an interactive spacesuit kiosk where visitors can learn more about the parts of the spacesuit and why each piece is important.
In addition, the Visitor Center will debut the newest additions to the “John Glenn: Tribute to an American Hero” gallery: a blue flight suit and a rugby-style crew shirt that John Glenn wore on space shuttle mission STS-95 in 1998. These items, which will remain on permanent display, are on loan from The Ohio State University’s John Glenn Archives collection.
Hours of operation are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday.
The Visitor Center is located at 21000 Brookpark Road. It is wheelchair accessible. All adult visitors must present government-issued identification upon entering the research center’s main gate. Access to the Visitor Center is limited to U.S. citizens, and all vehicles are subject to inspection.
