Top Leaders from Academia, Industry, and Government to Convene In Orlando

The American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) is pleased to announce that leaders from government, academia, and industry will convene in Orlando, Fla., January 5-8, 2009, to discuss the future of the global aerospace industry and workforce.

The New Horizons Forum, held as part of the 47th AIAA Aerospace Sciences Meeting, will feature a series of keynote addresses and panel discussions focusing on the new challenges, future opportunities, and emerging trends in aerospace education, research, and programs.

The keynote addresses will focus on the following issues:

— Monday, January 5, 1 p.m. – Aerospace Education and Workforce Development in the 21st Century – Frank Cappuccio, executive vice president and general manager, advanced development programs, and strategic planning, Lockheed Martin Aeronautics.

— Tuesday, January 6, 8 a.m. – New Horizons: We Will Control the Vertical – Maj. Gen. Curtis Bedke, Air Force Research Laboratory.

— Tuesday, January 6, 2 p.m. – Through the Looking Glass, What Will We Find There? – Lt. Gen. Ted F. Bowlds, United States Air Force Electronic Systems Center.

— Wednesday, January 7, 8 a.m. – NASA’s Aeronautics Program: Past, Present, Future – Dr. Jaiwon Shin, Aeronautics Research Mission Directorate, NASA Headquarters.

— Wednesday, January 7, 1 p.m. – The Future of Space Launch – Where We’re Going and How to Get There – Elon Musk, CEO/CTO, SpaceX.

— Thursday, January 8, 8 a.m. – Boeing 787 Dreamliner: A New Airplane for a New World – Tom Cogan, chief engineer, Boeing 787, The Boeing Company.

The panel discussion topics are as follows:

— Monday, January 5, 2 p.m. – Education in Aerospace Engineering, New Opportunities, New Demands.

— Tuesday, January 6, 9 a.m. – Perspectives on Future Challenges and Opportunities for Air Force Research and Technology.

— Tuesday, January 6, 3 p.m. – Industry Perspectives on New Horizons in Aerospace Engineering.

— Wednesday, January 7, 9 a.m. – Perspectives on New Horizons in Aeronautics Research.

— Wednesday, January 7, 3 p.m. – New Horizons in Space Launch and Space Operations.

— Thursday, January 8, 9 a.m. – Aerospace Engineering in a Global Marketplace – New Opportunities, Challenges and Paradigms.

— Thursday, January 8, 2 p.m. – Basic Research Perspectives on New Horizons in Aerospace Engineering.
