New Mexico – Desert Works Propulsion, leading provider of electric propulsion (EP) expertise as a service, is thrilled to welcome Kevin McCormick as the Senior Master Technician. We congratulate Kevin on his recent retirement from NASA and are thrilled to partner with him in the next phase of his already exceptional career. Kevin will lead the manufacturing of mechanical, electrical, and electronics hardware for Desert Works Propulsion and its clients, while also supporting the design and implementation of EP thrusters and components, advancing new fabrication technologies and processes.

Kevin has over 40 years of experience in aerospace, including both private and government sectors. He is skilled in supporting flight programs and configuring integration tests for electric propulsion systems, with expertise in diagnostics, propellant feed systems, power processor units, and vacuum facility design.

“I’m pleased to officially welcome Kevin to Desert Works Propulsion,” said Michael Patterson, the company’s Founder and Chairman. “Kevin’s skillset is nothing short of extraordinary. I refer to him as a ‘Super Tech’—a mechanic with an exceptional ability to tackle anything from mechanical systems to electrical and electronic work, and even plumbing. His hands-on expertise and versatility make him a valuable asset to our team.”

Kevin served as an aircraft mechanic at NASA, working on flight research and later serving as Crew Chief and Flight Engineer for a micro-gravity DC-9. He then became Tactical Lead, overseeing technician crews in the build and modification of vacuum facilities for electric propulsion testing. With 17 years of experience, Kevin has supported the design and fabrication of electric propulsion thrusters and plasma diagnostics, and has developed novel welding processes for refractory metals.

Before joining NASA, Kevin worked at United Airlines, where he handled heavy structural sheet metal aircraft overhauls and line maintenance troubleshooting. At Cleveland Pneumatic Corporation, he was a service and warranty repair engineer for military and commercial aircraft landing gear.

Kevin graduated from Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics with an FAA Airframe & Power Plant License.
