The commercialization of NASA’s cutting-edge nano- and biotechnology developments will be the focus of a two-day conference hosted by NASA Ames Research Center in California’s Silicon Valley.

On Oct. 17, NASA Ames scientists will present research projects with promising commercial applications. Discussion will include research in protein nanostructures, carbon nanotubes, molecular electronics, chemical sensors, DNA sensors and nanopores. The second day will feature 14 nanotechnology ventures being presented for the first time. A panel of venture capitalists will discuss nanotechnology funding.

“NASA Ames has been a leader in nanotechnology in the last five years.  The
NanoSig event will showcase NASA Ames technologies in the bio-nano fields to
the venture/business communities,” said Dr. Meyya Meyyappan, director for the Center for Nanotechnology at NASA Ames.
 
Attendees are expected to include industry and government leaders in the technical and marketing domains; executives and managers from large and medium-size corporations, start-up and early-stage ventures; academics and government employees; industry analysts; ‘angel’ and corporate investors, and investment bankers and venture capitalists.

This event is co-sponsored by non-profit groups the Girvan Institute of Technology and the Nano Special Interest Groups (nanoSIG), as well as the law firm Oppenheimer Wolff & Donnelly, LLP, Palo Alto, Calif. The Girvan Institue and nanoSig both are located in the NASA Research Park adjacent to NASA Ames.
