Northrop Grumman Corporation announced today that it is funding, as the regional sponsor, the traveling exhibition Star Wars: Where Science Meets Imagination, which explores the boundaries between fantasy and reality and the similarities between how scientists and filmmakers think. The exhibition will be on display at the California Science Center from Feb. 11 to April 29. A special preview of the exhibit is scheduled for Feb. 10, 2007 at the 9th Annual Discovery Ball, a philanthropic event that benefits the science center’s exhibits and programs.

Developed by the Boston Museum of Science in collaboration with Lucasfilm Ltd., the exhibit allows visitors to learn about the fantasy technologies depicted in Star Wars films and compare them to real-world technologies shaping the future. It is the first exhibit to display costumes and props from all six Star Wars films. Visitors will have the chance to learn about the technology used in the films through video interviews with filmmakers, scientists and engineers. In addition, they will be able to build and test their own speeders and robots in engineering design labs.

The California Science Center is hosting the exhibit as part of its overall mission: “We aspire to stimulate curiosity and inspire science learning in everyone by creating fun, memorable experiences, because we value science as an indispensable tool for understanding our world, accessibility and inclusiveness, and enriching people’s lives.”

“Northrop Grumman is proud to be a lead sponsor of the California Science Center’s new Star Wars exhibit. The Science Center’s educational mission, ongoing programs and exhibits all help to raise awareness of the importance of science to our nation’s children. We are very glad to support their efforts, and I am pleased to be a co-chair of this year’s Discovery Ball, which officially kicks off the new exhibit,” said Rosanne O’Brien, Northrop Grumman corporate vice president of communications.
