House Science Committee Chairman Sherwood Boehlert (R-NY) today announced the promotions of Dr. Dahlia Sokolov to staff director of the Subcommittee on Energy and Dr. Johannes Loschnigg to staff director of the Subcommittee on Space and Aeronautics.
Sokolov originally joined the Subcommittee on Energy as an American Institute of Physics congressional fellow in the fall of 2004, and was hired as professional staff the following summer. In her new capacity, Sokolov oversees all Subcommittee activities, while specializing in nuclear energy research and development, along with energy efficiency and renewable energy issues.
Sokolov received her Bachelors degree in Engineering Physics from the University of California, Berkeley in 1996, and went on to earn her Ph.D. in Bioengineering from the University of Washington in 2002. Sokolov replaces Kevin Carroll, who accepted a position at the White House Office of Management and Budget.
Loschnigg first came to Capitol Hill as an American Association for the Advancement of Science congressional science and technology policy fellow in 2002, and was hired as professional staff in May, 2004. In his new capacity, Loschnigg oversees all Subcommittee activities, focusing on oversight of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration.
Loschnigg received his Bachelor of Arts in Physics and International Relations from the University of Wisconsin at Madison in 1992. Following the completion of his undergraduate studies, Loschnigg attended the University of Colorado at Boulder and received a Master of Science degree in 1995, and later earned his Ph.D. in 1998 in Astrophysical, Planetary and Atmospheric Sciences. Prior to his Washington arrival, Loschnigg served as a post-doctoral research fellow and then as a faculty member at the University of Hawaii’s School of Ocean, Earth Science and Technology in Honolulu. Loschnigg replaces Bill Adkins, who left the Subcommittee to start his own space consulting business.
