The Space Foundation announced today that Dr. Patricia Arnold has been promoted to senior vice president, Education and Workforce Development. In this role, she will continue to develop and implement nationwide education programs that inspire, enable, and propel tomorrow’s explorers. Arnold joined the Space Foundation as vice president of Education and Workforce Development in December 2001.
“Patty has been the driving force in the expansion of the Space Foundation’s education enterprises,” said Space Foundation President and Chief Executive Officer Elliot G. Pulham. “Her education background and expertise and passion for inspiring the next generation are a great asset to the Space Foundation.”
Arnold’s leadership has influenced all aspects of the Space Foundation’s education efforts: she implemented the Space Foundation’s nationwide Teacher Liaison program; developed a revolutionary Integrated Science Literacy Model used to train teachers; facilitated collaborative efforts between the Space Foundation and the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs, and Regis University to offer two distinct Master’s in Space Studies degrees; worked with teachers to offer a free online lesson bank for educators; and oversees the Space Foundation’s Summer Institute program, at which attendance in 2006 grew by 10 percent.
Additionally, Arnold was called upon to testify on education matters before the recent Presidential Commission, on Moon, Mars, and Beyond. In 2005, she represented the Space Foundation at the 56th International Astronautical Congress (IAC) in Kitakyushu, Japan, as a presenter at the United Nations/International Astronautical Federation (UN/IAF) Workshop.
In the field of education for 36 years, Arnold is a veteran educator with strong credentials and practical experience having served as Dean of the School of Arts and Science at the University of Southern Colorado; principal of elementary, junior high, and high schools; and classroom teacher at all levels from pre-kindergarten through college. She earned both her master’s degree and her doctorate in educational leadership and innovation from the University of Colorado.
