NASA’s CloudSat and CALIPSO launch from Vandenberg Air Force Base, Calif., is scheduled for 6:02 a.m. EDT Friday, April 28. Launch commentary on NASA TV begins at 4 a.m. EDT.
On Wednesday, engineers and mission managers assessed a suspect temperature sensor on the Boeing Delta II rocket’s second stage. They concluded the unusual temperature readings observed during the previous two launch attempts were primarily the result of higher temperature pressurization rates and are not indicative of any defect in the sensor. The sensor does not require replacement and can fly as is.
Weather is not expected to be a concern for Friday’s launch.
Media covering the launch on Friday should meet at the Vandenberg main gate at 5 a.m. EDT for escort to the press site. For media accreditation, call Staff Sgt. Allen Puckett at (805) 606-3595 at the 30th Space Wing Public Affairs Office.
