(Washington, DC) – Every year on April 22, communities around the world celebrate Earth Day, a day dedicated to bringing attention to the health and protection of the environment.

Chairwoman Eddie Bernice Johnson (D-TX) made the following statement.

“On Earth Day we not only celebrate the magnificence and beauty of our planet, but we also recognize a day of activism. Every Earth Day is a rallying call for increased environmental protections.

“Now that we are experiencing the ravages of climate change, the focus of Earth Day has expanded to include addressing these impacts and transitioning to a clean energy future. This day serves as a reminder that it is crucial for Congress to deal with all aspects of climate change from research to adaptation and mitigation to the adoption of new technologies. We must act now. Future generations are depending on us to act on climate change. We cannot let them down.”
