Space Systems Loral (SSL), a leading provider of innovative satellites and spacecraft systems, today announced that Dr. Jennifer Dawson, Product Assurance Program Manager and Director of Marketing, will be honored by the Society of Satellite Professionals International (SSPI) as a future industry leader. The award, which recognizes young satellite industry professionals for outstanding achievement, will be presented at the annual Future Leaders Dinner, which takes place on November 9th in conjunction with the NAB Show New York industry conference featuring SATCON.
“Dr. Dawson demonstrates exceptional leadership qualities and her nomination was endorsed by executives from across the industry,” said Robert Bell, Executive Director of SSPI. “SSL has a unique ability to attract exceptional young professionals and nurture their leadership capability, as demonstrated by its record of seven Promise Award winners over the past eight years.”
Dr. Dawson joined SSL in 2010 after earning both her Master’s degree and Ph.D. in mechanical engineering at Stanford University. Her first role at SSL was Senior Spacecraft Systems Engineer and in 2015 she became a Product Assurance Program Manager, where she demonstrated an exceptional ability to manage customer expectations and lead multi-disciplinary teams. In September 2016 Jennifer assumed her current role as Director of Marketing and Sales, where she channels her technical and customer-focused experience into helping satellite operators develop systems that strengthen their businesses.
Among her numerous career achievements and contributions to SSL, Jennifer took the lead role for SSL’s Shock Committee, and acted as the senior technical leader for all shock related issues. She used an iterative process to redefine qualification requirements, aggressively simplifying and improving them with each update.
“In just six years, Jennifer Dawson has helped the company evolve its standards and improve its satellite solutions,” said John Celli, president of SSL. “Our customers have commended her ability to collaborate with them to refine processes and noted that she is not bound by established practice. One of our goals at SSL is to provide a supportive environment that helps young engineers to grow professionally. That is an imperative here in Silicon Valley.”
Since 2006, SSPI’s Future Leaders Dinner has honored men and women 35 and under with the talent and motivation to advance into leadership positions in the satellite industry. Â Held in conjunction with the NAB Show New York conference featuring SATCON, the Future Leaders Dinner helps the SSPI support scholarships, internships and educational development partnerships with the university sector.
