The Kavli Foundation emphasizes three areas a basic scientific research: astrophysics, neuroscience, and nanoscience. In each, it is partnering with leading universities to establish a network of research institutes, professorships, symposia and prizes. Thus far, ten Kavli Institutes and five Kavli Professorships have been established at universities worldwide. Within the next few years the Kavli Prizes will be inaugurated to recognize outstanding scientific achievement and the Kavli Symposia will be introduced to convene leading scientists worldwide to address new research developments.

The Kavli Foundation seeks an experienced and energetic communicator with demonstrated success in publicizing the research agenda, activities, and achievements of a major academic or research organization. The Communications Director will develop, implement, and manage an extensive strategy to communicate the importance of the work of the Foundation and its partner organizations to the scientific community, to the media, and to the public. Two key initial responsibilities will be to promote the research highlights of the Kavli Institutes and to publicize the inauguration of the Kavli Prizes.

The ideal candidate should have a strong public and media relations background; a facility to articulate and promote the excitement and positive impact of science; a capacity to understand the key elements of the work of the Foundation and to convey them to the scientific community, the media, and the public both within the U.S. and abroad; an ability to develop and maintain an extensive network of leading science journalists worldwide; and a work-style that demonstrates assertiveness, dedication, team-work, flexibility, and good judgment. An education in science and/or journalism is desirable although not required. A willingness to travel both within the U.S. and abroad is required.

This position will be compensated at a competitive rate commensurate with qualifications and experience.
