CLEVELAND — NASA’s Glenn Research Center will test its outdoor mass notification and public address system on Saturday, May 7 between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.

During the course of the day, seven sirens will be turned on and off individually. The testing involves activating different types of tones – a whoop, wail or air horn sound — at varying volume levels and lengths of time. A number of prerecorded emergency messages will also be tested.

While the warning system is meant to alert center employees in the event of an emergency, the sound may also be audible in the neighborhoods surrounding the center. Since this is a functional test of the system, no action on behalf of Glenn employees or nearby residents is required.

Glenn’s outdoor mass notification system is used to alert center employees of severe weather, workplace incidents and emergencies.
