HAMPTON, Va. — While Galileo is regarded as one of the great men of science and his theories are well known, not many people take the time to appreciate his written works.
Dr. Kerry Magruder, assistant professor of the history of science collections at the University of Oklahoma, will speak on Galileo in a colloquium lecture called “The Life and Works of Galileo: A Guided Tour.” The lecture will take place Tuesday, July 8, at 2 p.m. in the H.J.E. Reid Conference Center at NASA Langley Research Center.
The multimedia tour of Galileo’s works will highlight both his scientific efforts and his prowess as a writer of prose. This exploration of his writing will give insight into who Galileo was as a person and the challenges he faced.

Magruder is assistant professor of the history of science collections and for the history of science department at the University of Oklahoma. He received his doctorate in the history of science from the University of Oklahoma.
Magruder will speak on the subject again at a free lecture for the general public Tuesday evening at 7:30 p.m. at the Virginia Air & Space Center on Settlers Landing Road in Hampton.
