May 15, 2007 – Washington, D.C. – The American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) presents its highest awards tonight at the Aerospace Spotlight Awards Gala at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center.
Two newly announced award recipients are Congressman David L. Hobson (R-OH), receiving the AIAA Public Service Award, and David W. Thompson, chairman and CEO, Orbital Sciences Corporation, receiving the Barry M. Goldwater Educator Award.
Congressman Hobson received his award for outstanding contribution and service to the aerospace industry and community. The award is presented to honor a person outside the aerospace community who has shown consistent and visible support for national aviation and space goals.
The Barry M. Goldwater Educator Award is presented by the AIAA National Capital Section to an individual of national stature who has supported the advancement of science and technology in commerce and education at all levels. Thompson received the award for accomplishments as a space entrepreneur and pioneer of smaller size space systems that have made space applications more beneficial and accessible to people and organizations around the world.
