HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Residents of Huntsville, Ala., are already familiar with the space program, considering it is home to NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center. Now they’ll get a chance to see a different side of the space program by exploring the solar system without ever leaving the ground.
NASA’s interactive exhibit – the Vision for Space Exploration Experience Dome – will visit the EarlyWorks Children’s Museum in Huntsville Jan. 19 through March 24.
The dome allows museum visitors to travel to the moon and Mars by surrounding them with floor-to-ceiling projection screens depicting the journey and the landscape of the celestial bodies. This gives “explorers” the illusion of walking on these vast and diverse environments of our solar system.
The exhibit also shares NASA’s Vision for Space Exploration, which calls for humans to return to the moon and travel to Mars and destinations beyond.
Visitors can learn how tomorrow’s lifestyles will change as NASA develops advancements in generating energy and power, computer technologies, communications, networking and robotics.
There is no admission fee to the NASA exhibit, which will be located inside the museum. However, visitors will be required to pay the museum admission fee of $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and students and $4 for toddlers. The EarlyWorks Children’s Museum is located at 404 Madison St. in downtown Huntsville. The exhibit, which is wheelchair accessible, will be open to the public during regular museum hours, Tuesday through Saturday, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
