SofTech, Inc., a proven provider of Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) solutions, announced on April 26, 2006 that through a competitive bid process SofTech has been awarded a contract for software and consulting services to implement SofTech’s ProductCenter(TM) PLM solution at NASA Langley Research Center (LARC) in Hampton, Virginia.
Langley leads NASA initiatives in aviation safety, quiet aircraft technology, small aircraft transportation and aerospace vehicles system technology. It supports NASA space programs with atmospheric research and technology testing and development. Many of the facility’s 3,300 civil service and contract employees focus on improving today’s military and civilian aircraft, while providing technology for tomorrow’s jets.
NASA LARC will utilize SofTech’s ProductCenter PLM solution to improve control of its aircraft work orders (AWO) and corresponding safety permits. With safety an essential part of every mission, NASA LARC required an easily deployable, commercial off the shelf (COTS) PLM solution like ProductCenter that would allow it to automate previously manual, paper-based systems to better manage these critical documents. SofTech’s ProductCenter PLM solution was also proven in use at other NASA facilities in very similar applications to this one.
In addition to the ProductCenter core PLM solution, this procurement includes SofTech’s ProductDashboard(TM) Web Portal interface from which NASA engineers will be able to more easily create aircraft work orders, control and associate supporting CAD drawings and documents, and launch final work orders for review. ProductCenter will provide a complete and thorough documentation trail of the sequence of events for a particular research project linked to final test results, enabling users to more easily research previous missions. NASA researchers, on site or in the field, will be able to track their own work orders through the system, as well as see if there are any other outstanding work orders or permits pending on an aircraft. Safety permits, associated with the original work orders, will be managed in much the same way.
