ORBIMAGE Inc. (“ORBIMAGE”), the Dulles,
VA-based satellite imaging company, announced today that it has been awarded a
multi-year, indefinite delivery, indefinite quantify (IDIQ) contract to supply
the United States Geological Survey (USGS) and its partner agencies with high-
resolution commercial satellite imagery from its OrbView-3 satellite. The
award to ORBIMAGE is based on a period of one year, with two additional one-
year options. The program under which the USGS has awarded this contract has
a total estimated worth of up to $15 million over three years.
This IDIQ contract was designed as a vehicle for the USGS to coordinate
the purchase of high-resolution imagery from ORBIMAGE. Under the agreement,
volume discounts and more flexible licensing terms are provided to support the
expanded use of commercial imagery and sharing of data among the USGS and its
civilian Federal partner agencies.
“These contracts directly support the President’s Commercial Remote
Sensing Space Policy, signed in 2003, by providing a centralized mechanism for
civil agencies to acquire commercial remote sensing products to support their
mission needs in an efficient and coordinated way,” said Barbara Ryan, USGS
Associate Director for Geography.
“The offerings in this contract demonstrate ORBIMAGE’s support for USGS’s
important role as the purchasing coordinator for most civilian Federal
agencies that require high-resolution satellite imagery,” said Gary Adkins,
ORBIMAGE’s Vice President for Federal and National Security Programs.
“Instead of getting bogged down with licensing issues and variable pricing
terms, this contract vehicle encourages the greater use of satellite imagery
by allowing these organizations faster, easier access to ORBIMAGE’s quality
satellite imagery products — at very attractive prices.”
