A 2004 Peabody Award was granted to the documentary Black Sky: The Race for Space, which chronicled the development effort behind the pioneering SpaceShipOne crewed suborbital spaceship. The award, generally granted for the best examples in electronic media, was specifically given for capturing “the first great aeronautical feat of the 21st Century and its reinvention of space travel.”
The documentary was produced by Vulcan Productions and Discovery Communications, Inc. and included extensive onboard RocketCam™ footage taken during the multi-year testflight program (including the first successful private trip to space altitude) and the two X Prize flights last fall.
Ecliptic was a team member on the SpaceShipOne effort and was also credited in the Black Sky documentary.
“Applying the unique space-themed content provided by RocketCam to world-class media projects like Black Sky is spot-on with a key element of Ecliptic’s strategic plan of expanding commercial business practices in the space arena,” commented Ecliptic’s CEO Rex Ridenoure.
