Aerojet, a GenCorp
Inc. company, played a key role in the successful launch earlier
today of the Lockheed Martin Atlas® V vehicle, featuring two of Aerojet’s
single-structure, 67-foot solid rocket boosters. In addition, Aerojet hardware
supported the launch vehicle, the upper stage, and the spacecraft.

The solid rocket boosters provided 500,000 lbs. of thrust for the launch
vehicle, while the company’s monopropellant rocket engines provided
directional control for the Atlas upper stage. Additionally, Aerojet provided
the arcjets, power processing units and thrusters used for north/south
station-keeping and attitude control of Lockheed Martin’s AMERICOM 16
spacecraft.

The Atlas boosted the AMERICOM 16 spacecraft into orbit for use by
EchoStar Communication Corp.’s (EchoStar) DISH Network.

“Aerojet solid propulsion and liquid in-space technology supported today’s
successful Atlas launch,” said company President Michael Martin. “We are
serving the needs of our Lockheed Martin and EchoStar customers with
flight-proven, reliable, advanced hardware.”
