In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month and in commemoration of the 40th anniversary of the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, civil rights activist Dolores Huerta will address employees at NASA Ames Research Center, located in California’s Silicon Valley, on Tuesday, Sept. 21.
Huerta is the co-founder and first vice president emeritus of the United Farm Workers of America. Responding to the needs of U.S. farm workers, Huerta worked closely with Cesar Chavez to organize them to improve their working conditions. Since 1955, Huerta has led voter registration drives, pushed for improved public services and battled segregation and police brutality.
“We will be honored to have Dolores here,” said Adriana Cardenas, director of the NASA Ames Equal Opportunity Programs Office. “Her decades of hard work in civil rights and public service championing the rights of farm workers have improved the lives of people who help feed our country.”
Huerta’s presentation will be open only to NASA employees and the news media.
