The U.S. Army Geospatial Center compiled earthquake, water and geology maps of Haiti and made them available to anyone assisting with relief efforts in the earthquake-ravished nation.
In addition to the information released via the Army Geospatial Center’s public Web site, the Alexandria, Va.-based center pulled together more sensitive information, including military capability studies, and posted them to an internal Web site available to the U.S. Defense Department and other federal agencies.
Todd Spillman, the center’s hydrologic and environmental analysis branch chief, said in a Jan. 19 press release that the initial water data released so far include detailed information on existing water facilities, surface and ground water resources and a country-scale surface and ground water strategic planning study.
