The U.S. Air Force has awarded Northrop Grumman Electronic Systems of Linthicum, Md., a $12 million sole-source contract to develop, design and test a system for Australia that will process satellite-based missile warning data, according to a Pentagon announcement released Sept. 26.
The system, called the Australian Mission Processor Phase 3, or AMP 3, will process missile warning data from the new-generation Space Based Infrared System as well as the legacy Defense Support Program satellites. Northrop Grumman, which built the main sensor for both programs, will be responsible for installing and integrating the system as well as providing three years of support, according to the announcement.
The work is expected to be completed by March 2018.
