The U.K. Space Agency and the Kazakh space agency, Kazcosmos, signed an agreement March 7 outlining several collaborative space activities, including training engineers from Kazakhstan how to design and operate satellites.
In exchange, Kazcosmos will facilitate collaboration between the U.K.’s Surrey Satellite Technology Ltd. and organizations within the joint stock company Kazakhstan Gharysh Sapary (KGS) on various space science, technology demonstration, communication, navigation and Earth observation projects, according to a U.K. Space Agency press release.
“This agreement will see the U.K. and Kazakhstan working together on space activities with high growth potential, such as communications, navigation and Earth observation,” David Willetts, the U.K.’s minister for universities and science, said in a statement. “It will foster innovation and encourage greater exchange of information and technology between our countries.”
The agreement was signed by U.K. Space Agency Chief Executive David Parker and Kazcosmos Chairman Talgat Mussabayev at the Disaster Monitoring Constellation and NovaSAR International Conference in London.
