The U.S. Air Force successfully launched its fourth GPS 2F satellite from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Fla., May 15.

The satellite was built by Boeing Network and Space Systems. The Atlas 5 launcher, the first Atlas used in a GPS mission, was supplied by United Launch Alliance.

The GPS 2F satellites provide better accuracy and more resistance to jamming than the previous generation of GPS satellites, most of which are still in operation.

The launch will bring the size of the current constellation to 31 satellites, Air Force officials said.
