The 14th Annual
YWCA Luncheon announces their keynote speaker, Sally Ride. Dr. Ride
became America’s first woman in space in 1983 — making a six-day
flight aboard the space shuttle Challenger where she assisted in
performing the first satellite deployment and retrieval with the
shuttle’s robot arm. She will address the 14th Annual YWCA Luncheon on
Tuesday, November 9th at the San Jose McEnery Convention Center, with
Knight Ridder as the event’s Speaker Sponsor. Guests at the Luncheon
will be asked to make a donation to the YWCA in Santa Clara Valley of
$150. We are anticipating an attendance of 1,700 guests at the
Luncheon.
The YWCA Luncheon Committee is being chaired by Sheryl Stroh. Ms.
Stroh has served on the Luncheon committee for many years and is
excited to head up this year’s committee. With Ms. Stroh’s leadership,
the Luncheon committee is working to successfully reach their net goal
of $390,000 to help support the vital programs provided by the YWCA in
Santa Clara Valley.
The YWCA in Santa Clara Valley supports various programs including
child care, employment assistance, assault prevention and
intervention, teen pregnancy prevention, youth empowerment, counseling
services and parent education. Serving all of Santa Clara County, the
mission of the YWCA is to empower women and their families and to
eliminate racism prejudice and hatred. To ensure that everyone can
benefit from our programs, all services are offered on a sliding scale
basis. The YWCA in Santa Clara Valley is proud to announce their 100th
year of dedication and service to the Silicon Valley, in 2005.
