The Aerospace Industries Association announces the appointment of Alex Wagner to serve as Vice President and Senior Advisor to AIA President and CEO Eric K. Fanning. In this role, he will focus on integration and strategy, including development of new initiatives and outreach.

“I’m excited to welcome Alex to the AIA team as my first new hire,” said AIA President and CEO Eric K. Fanning. “I’ve known Alex for many years, including his time as my chief of staff when I was Secretary of the Army. His experience and relationships from his time at the Pentagon and in the private sector will help advance the important work AIA has done for nearly a century.”

Prior to joining AIA, Wagner served nearly seven years in the Department of Defense, most recently as Chief of Staff to the 22nd Secretary of the Army, providing policy, communications, legislative and managerial direction.

In prior appointments within the Office of the Secretary of Defense, Wagner represented the Pentagon to the interagency, seeking to forge consensus on controversial issues where the law is either unclear or undefined – particularly with respect to detention, drones, landmines and autonomous technologies. He also engaged internationally at two high profile treaty negotiations at the United Nations, including as the primary Defense Department negotiator and as deputy head of the U.S. delegation.
