What: NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Ala., will commemorate Black History Month with a celebration Feb. 24. Dexter Brooks, director of federal sector programs for the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission in Washington, will provide the keynote address. Featured will be live musical performances by Marshall Center team members and an exhibition of original works of art by Dwight Pope, a digital technician in Marshall’s Office of the Chief Information Officer.
The national Black History Month theme for 2011 is “African Americans and the Civil War,” reflecting on the impact and aftermath of that turbulent era in U.S. history.
Who: The keynote speaker will be Dexter Brooks, director of federal sector programs for the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission in Washington. Speakers from Marshall will include Center Deputy Director Gene Goldman; Bobby Watkins, director of the Office of Strategic Analysis & Communications; and Tereasa Washington, director of the Office of Human Capital.

Media must report to the Redstone Arsenal Joint Visitor Control Center at Gate 9, Interstate 565 interchange at Rideout Road/Research Park Boulevard. Vehicles are subject to a security search at the gate. News media will need two photo identifications and proof of car insurance. Visitor parking is available in front of Building 4200 on the southwest side.
