Longmont, Colo.-based DigitalGlobe will launch its WorldView-3 commercial Earth-imaging satellite aboard an Atlas 5 rocket ordered through Lockheed Martin Commercial Launch Services, the Denver-based Lockheed Martin subsidiary announced March 15.

Financial terms were not disclosed. The launch is scheduled for 2014 from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California.

DigitalGlobe’s rival GeoEye contracted with Lockheed Martin Commercial Launch Services last September for a late-2012 launch of its GeoEye-2 satellite aboard an Atlas 5.

The U.S. National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency in August 2010 awarded DigitalGlobe and GeoEye a pair of EnhancedView contracts potentially worth $7.3 billion combined for imagery from the firms’ existing and planned satellites.
