PONTE VEDRA, Florida — Space Systems/Loral (SSL), in its sixth commercial telecommunications satellite win of the year, will build the Intelsat 36 satellite for launch over the Indian Ocean region in late 2016 under a contract announced Aug. 4.

Palo Alto, California-based SSL said the satellite will carry C- and Ku-band capacity. Washington- and Luxembourg-based Intelsat has said Intelsat 36 will be operated at 68.5 degrees east and provide direct-broadcast television services to a broad swath of Africa, with African satellite-television provider MultiChoice using the Ku-band payload under a contract agreement with Intelsat that was announced earlier this year.

The contract win brings to four the number of Intelsat satellites SSL will have in production at its facility.
